REDUCE DISTRICT COURT JUDGESHIPS S.B. 546: FLOOR ANALYSIS

The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act to specify that the 54th-A judicial district, which consists of the City of Lansing and has six judges, would continue to have six judges through December 31, 1995, and would have only five judges beginning on January 1, 1996.

Currently a district judge costs the State $99,420 annually. This cost includes the base salary, the standardization payment, and Social Security and Medicare costs (FICA).
The saving realized in calendar year 1996 by the State would be $99,420.
