H.B. 5271: COMMITTEE SUMMARY “FRATERNAL ORGANIZATION”: BINGO
House Bill 5271
Sponsor: Representative Susan Grimes Munsell House Committee: Regulatory Affairs
Senate Committee: Government Operations
Date Completed: 12-4-95
The bill would amend the definition of “fraternal organization” in the Bingo Act to refer to an organization existing for the common “purpose”, rather than the common “business”, of its members. Currently, “fraternal organization” means an organization within this State, except a college fraternity or sorority, that is organized not for pecuniary profit; that is a branch, lodge, or chapter of a national or State organization; and that exists for the common business, brotherhood, or other interests of its members.
The Act includes fraternal organizations within the definition of “qualified organization”, and allows qualified organizations to conduct various gaming activities such as bingo and millionaire parties.
