AUDIOLOGY 4 SEC. 16801. (1) AS USED IN THIS PART, "REGISTERED 5 AUDIOLOGIST" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO DOES ALL OF THE FOLLOWING, 6 BUT DOES NOT DISPENSE HEARING AIDS WITHOUT A VALID HEARING AID 7 DEALERS LICENSE ISSUED UNDER ARTICLE 13 OF THE OCCUPATIONAL CODE, 8 1980 PA 299, MCL 339.1301 TO 339.1309, AND WHO IS REGISTERED 9 UNDER THIS ARTICLE: 10 (A) PROVIDES ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SERVICES, WITH OR WITHOUT 11 AMPLIFICATION, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: FACILITATING THE 12 CONSERVATION, AUGMENTATION, OR REHABILITATION OF AUDITORY SYSTEM 13 FUNCTION; IDENTIFYING, ASSESSING AND INTERPRETING, AND DIAGNOSING 14 NONMEDICAL ASPECTS OF HEARING LOSS AND PREVENTING AND REHABILI- 15 TATING PERIPHERAL AND CENTRAL AUDITORY SYSTEM DYSFUNCTIONS; AND 16 PROVIDING AURAL REHABILITATION INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, 17 AUDITORY TRAINING AND SPEECH READING AND RELATED COUNSELING SERV- 18 ICES TO HEARING IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES. 19 (B) DEVELOPS AND SUPERVISES ENVIRONMENTAL AND OCCUPATIONAL 20 HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAMS. 21 (C) PROVIDES AND INTERPRETS BEHAVIORAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL 22 MEASUREMENTS OF AUDITORY AND VESTIBULAR AND OTHER CRANIAL NERVE 23 FUNCTIONS. 24 (D) PROVIDES A PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF SPEECH, LANGUAGE, 25 AND OTHER FACTORS AFFECTING COMMUNICATION FUNCTION FOR THE PUR- 26 POSE OF INITIAL IDENTIFICATION OF INDIVIDUALS WITH OTHER 27 COMMUNICATION DISORDERS. 03452'97 ** 6 1 (E) PROVIDES APPROPRIATE REFERRALS FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH 2 DYSFUNCTIONS. 3 (2) IN ADDITION TO THE DEFINITIONS IN THIS PART, ARTICLE 1 4 CONTAINS GENERAL DEFINITIONS AND PRINCIPLES OF CONSTRUCTION 5 APPLICABLE TO ALL ARTICLES IN THIS CODE AND PART 161 CONTAINS 6 DEFINITIONS APPLICABLE TO THIS PART. 7 SEC. 16802. AN INDIVIDUAL SHALL NOT USE THE TITLES 8 "AUDIOLOGIST" OR "REGISTERED AUDIOLOGIST" OR SIMILAR WORDS INDI- 9 CATING THAT HE OR SHE IS A REGISTERED AUDIOLOGIST UNLESS THE 10 INDIVIDUAL IS REGISTERED UNDER THIS ARTICLE. 11 SEC. 16803. THE MICHIGAN BOARD OF AUDIOLOGY IS CREATED 12 WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT. THE BOARD CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING 5 13 VOTING MEMBERS WHO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF PART 161: 14 (A) THREE AUDIOLOGISTS. THE MEMBERS INITIALLY APPOINTED 15 UNDER THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF 16 SECTION 16135. 17 (B) TWO PUBLIC MEMBERS. 18 SEC. 16804. THE BOARD SHALL PROMULGATE RULES SETTING FORTH 19 THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION AS AN AUDIOLOGIST. THE 20 RULES SHALL REQUIRE AN INDIVIDUAL TO MEET AT LEAST ALL OF THE 21 FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE REGISTERED AS AN 22 AUDIOLOGIST: 23 (A) POSSESS, AT A MINIMUM, A MASTER'S DEGREE IN AUDIOLOGY 24 FROM A REGIONALLY ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY APPROVED BY 25 THE BOARD. 26 (B) HAVE COMPLETED SUPERVISED CLINICAL EXPERIENCE IN 27 AUDIOLOGY. THE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED UNDER THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL 03452'97 ** 7 1 BE OBTAINED THROUGH A TRAINING INSTITUTION OR AN INTEGRATED 2 COOPERATIVE PROGRAM APPROVED BY THE BOARD AND UNDER THE SUPERVI- 3 SION OF AN AUDIOLOGIST. FOR A PERIOD ENDING 2 YEARS AFTER THE 4 EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS PART, THE SUPERVISION REQUIRED BY THIS 5 SUBDIVISION MAY BE PROVIDED BY AN INDIVIDUAL WHO MEETS THE 6 REQUIREMENTS OF SUBDIVISION (A) AND IS APPROVED BY THE BOARD. 7 (C) HAVE OBTAINED A PASSING SCORE, AS DETERMINED BY THE 8 BOARD, ON THE NATIONAL EXAMINATION IN AUDIOLOGY OR AN EXAMINATION 9 DETERMINED BY THE BOARD TO BE EQUIVALENT TO THE NATIONAL 10 EXAMINATION. 03452'97 ** Final page.
