        A bill to amend 1966 PA 261, entitled

   "An act to provide for the apportionment of county boards of com-
   missioners; to prescribe the size of the board; to provide for
   appeals; to prescribe the manner of election of the members of
   the county board of commissioners; to provide for compensation of
   members; and to repeal certain acts and parts of acts,"

   by amending section 15 (MCL 46.415), as amended by 1980 PA 187.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 15.  (1)  A  SUBJECT TO SUBSECTION (2), THE COMPENSA-

 2    TION AND MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT THAT A member of the county board

 3    of commissioners shall receive  the compensation and mileage

 4     reimbursement  SHALL BE fixed by 1 OF THE FOLLOWING:

 5         (A) A resolution of the county board of commissioners.  or

 6     for 

 7         (B) FOR a county  which  THAT has a county officers

 8    compensation commission  , fixed by  THAT IS AUTHORIZED PURSUANT

 9    TO SECTION 1 OF 1978 PA 485, MCL 45.451, TO MAKE THE

 1    DETERMINATION, a determination of the county officers

 2    compensation commission  which  THAT is not rejected.

 3         (2) The per mile mileage reimbursement fixed by the county

 4    board of commissioners or the county officers compensation com-

 5    mission shall not exceed the mileage reimbursement set for state

 6    officers as determined by the state officers compensation

 7    commission.  Changes in compensation shall become effective only

 8    at the time members of the county board of commissioners commence

 9    their terms of office after a general election, or for a county

10     which  THAT has a county officers compensation commission, at

11    the beginning of the first odd numbered year after the determina-

12    tion is made by the county officers compensation commission and

13    is not rejected.  As used in this section, "compensation"  shall 

14    DOES not include mileage reimbursement.

15         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

16    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

17    (request no. 03137'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

18    law.
