A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4111 AS INTRODUCED 1-28-99

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow a court to order a defendant to serve a term of imprisonment for a misdemeanor consecutively to an existing term of imprisonment already being served at the time of the misdemeanor sentencing.

Further, when a court sentenced a defendant for two or more misdemeanors, the court could require the defendant to serve the longest sentence consecutively and prior to the next longest sentence. However, if the defendant was being sentenced for more than two misdemeanors, the remaining crimes would have to be served concurrently with the longest term of imprisonment.
