Complete to 2-19-99

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4230 AS INTRODUCED 2-9-99

House Bill 4230 would create a new act to allow an institution of higher education to develop a student responsibility contract that includes, but is not limited to, any of the following:

*the standard of conduct expected of the student while enrolled;

*the institution's code of ethics; and,

*the disciplinary action that may be taken if the student fails to comply with the standards set out in the contract.

The bill specifies that if a student signs a responsibility contract and then fails to comply with its terms, the school could initiate disciplinary action.

House Bill 4230 would define "institution of higher education" to mean a college, university, community college, or junior college; and "student" to mean a person who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment at an institution of higher education.
