A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4558 AS INTRODUCED 4-22-00

The bill would amend the Insurance Code to specify that in cases where an automobile insurer decided to retain outside legal counsel to represent the insurer and insured under the terms of an auto insurance policy, the insured would have to be given the opportunity to select the outside counsel.

The bill would define "outside legal counsel" as an attorney licensed to practice law in the state who was not an employee of the automobile insurer.
