A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4982 AS INTRODUCED 10-12-99

House Bill 4982 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to specify that a stop need not be made at an abandoned railroad track grade crossing when three requirements are met, as follows: 1) the track has been abandoned under federal law; 2) the track has been covered or removed; and, 3) all signs, signals, and other warning devices have been removed or exempt signs have been placed by the state transportation department over the existing signs. Under current law, the third condition reads only "all signs, signals, and other warning devices are removed," and does not mention exempt signs that have been placed over existing signs by transportation officials.
