A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5068 AS INTRODUCED 10-28-99

House Bill 5068 would amend the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (MCL 324.20113) to authorize money, upon appropriation by the legislature, for grants to foreclosing governmental units (other than the state) for environmental cleanup ("response") activities on property in the possession of the foreclosing governmental unit, pursuant to section 78m(7) of the General Property Tax Act. (This section would be added to the General Property Tax Act by House Bill 5062, which would specify, among other things, that a foreclosing governmental unit could apply to the Department of Environmental Quality for a grant to conduct response activities on property in its possession.)
