A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5168 AS INTRODUCED 12-7-99

The bill would amend the Age of Majority Act of 1971 to include the "adult entertainment establishment employment act" proposed by House Bill 4450 among the exemptions to regarding 18-year-olds as adults. More specifically, the Age of Majority Act of 1971 currently states that someone who is at least 18 years old after January 1, 1972, is an adult of legal age ("for all purposes whatsoever"), except as otherwise provided in the state constitution and for certain court-ordered support payments ("notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary"). The bill would add to these two exemptions, the "adult entertainment establishment employment act" proposed by House Bill 4450, to which the bill is tie-barred, so that an individual would have to be at least 21 years old in order to work in an "adult entertainment establishment."
