A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5224 AS INTRODUCED 1-19-00

House Bill 5224, a supplemental appropriations bill for fiscal year 1999-2000, would appropriate $50,000 for the Department of Education to establish a toll-free hotline that citizens could use to report threats of violence in schools. The bill states that funds appropriated would be expended to create the toll-free hotline through the collaboration of the Department of Education with the Department of State Police. The hotline would operate seven days a week, 24 hours per day, and provide students, school officials, and others an opportunity to report specific threats of imminent school violence, or to report other suspicious or criminal conduct by juveniles to appropriate state and local law enforcement agencies for investigation.
