A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5387 AS INTRODUCED 2-16-00

The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act to increase the compensation paid to jurors for their service. Currently, county boards of commissioners are required to set the amounts that jurors are to receive for their service. However, the amount paid must be at least $15 for a full day's service and at least $7.50 for a half day. In addition, jurors are paid no less than 10 cents per mile for travel expenses from the juror's residence to the court where the trial is being held.

House Bill 5387 would increase the minimum amount that a county board of commissioners could pay a juror to $30 for each full day and $15 for each half day. The mileage payment would remain at 10 cents per mile.
