INCREASE FISHING RODS - S.B. 928: COMMITTEE SUMMARY

Senate Bill 928 (as introduced 1-25-00)

Sponsor: Senator Dave Jaye

Committee: Hunting, Fishing and Forestry

Date Completed: 4-6-00

CONTENT

The bill would amend Part 487 (Sport Fishing) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to increase the number of fishing rods and hooks allowed per angler, by providing that a person could not use more than three single lines or three single rods and lines, and could not attach more than six hooks on all lines while taking fish in the State waters.

Currently, a person must not use more than two single lines or two single rods and lines, or a single line and a single rod and line, and must not attach more than four hooks on all lines.

Under the Act, a person must not take, catch, or kill or attempt to take, catch, or kill a fish in the State waters with a spear or grab hook, snag hook, or gaff hook, or by the use of jack or an artificial light, or with other specified devices. The bill would delete the reference to a jack.
