Sponsor: Representative Jerry Vander Roest
House Committee: Local Government and Urban Policy
Senate Committee: Local, Urban and State Affairs
Date Completed: 11-3-99
CONTENT
The bill would amend Public Act 168 of 1959, which provides for township planning, to revise the publication requirement for notice of a planning commission hearing. Under the Act, a township planning commission must hold at least one public hearing before adopting a plan, part of a plan, or an amendment, extension, or addition to a plan. Thirty days' notice of the hearing must be given by two publications at least two weeks apart and at least seven days before the hearing, in a newspaper having a general circulation in the township. The bill would continue to require notice by two publications, but specifies that the first of the two publications would have to be not more than 30 days or less than 20 days before the date of the hearing. The second would have to be not more than eight days before the hearing.
