A bill to amend 1952 PA 228, entitled "Michigan comminuted meat law," by amending section 8 (MCL 289.588), as amended by 1992 PA 231. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 8. (1) A person engaged in the manufacturing, process- 2 ing, fabrication, sale, offering for sale, or storage of any pro- 3 duct within the meaning of this act shall first obtain a valid 4 license as required by the Michigan food processing act of 1977, 5Act No. 328 of the Public Acts of 1978, being sections 289.8016to 289.810 of the Michigan Compiled Laws1978 PA 328, MCL 7 289.801 TO 289.810. 8 (2) The department shall promulgate rules pursuant to the 9 administrative procedures act of 1969,Act No. 306 of the Public10Acts of 1969, being sections 24.201 to 24.328 of the Michigan04059'99 a LBO 2 1Compiled Laws1969 PA 306, MCL 24.201 TO 24.328, to do all of 2 the following: 3 (a) Define and clarify the standards of products under the 4 scope of this act. 5 (b) By January 1, 1996, require a declaration of lean/fat 6 percentage of ground beef products in a manner equivalent to the 7 percentage required by the United States department of 8 agriculture. 9 (c) Define "Michigan premier" quality standards. 10 (D) IMPLEMENT AN ANTI-LISTERIA PROGRAM NOT LATER THAN 11 JANUARY 1, 2002, TO INCLUDE AT LEAST IRRADIATION AND 12 PASTEURIZATION. 13 (E)(d)Implement and enforce this act. 04059'99 a Final page.
