A bill to amend 1968 PA 39, entitled

"Michigan food law of 1968,"

by amending section 22f (MCL 289.722f), as added by 1992 PA 129.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

1 Sec. 22f. (1) Each principal display panel on all contain-

2 ers of bottled water shall clearly and conspicuously provide all

3 of the following information:

4 (a) The declaration of identity of the product as provided

5 in section 22d.

6 (b) The name and address of the manufacturer or

7 distributor.

8 (c) A declaration regarding carbon dioxide, if required,

9 preceding or following the identity of the product in letters

10 that are not less than 1/2 of the height of those in the product

11 name.

1 (D) THE SOURCE OF THE WATER.

2 (2) The declaration of sodium content, if required, shall

3 appear on the principal display panel or the information panel.

4 The statement shall be complete on that panel and shall be

5 printed in not less than 1/16-inch type.

6 (3) Detectable levels, as determined by the United States

7 environmental protection agency, of synthetic organic compounds

8 identified in the safe drinking water act, Act No. 399 of the

9 Public Acts of 1976, being sections 325.1001 to 325.1023 of the

10 Michigan Compiled Laws 1976 PA 399, MCL 325.1001 TO 325.1023, in

11 the bottled water shall be declared on the product label in parts

12 per billion.

13 (4) The information panel of the label shall be immediately

14 contiguous and to the right of the principal display panel as

15 observed by an individual facing the principal display panel.

16 (5) Supplemental printed information and graphics concerning

17 recognized uses of the water may appear on the label, but shall

18 not imply properties of the product or preparation methods that

19 are not factual or are prohibited by law.

20 (6) The principal display panel shall be large enough to

21 accommodate all required label information in a clear and con-

22 spicuous manner without obscuring the design or vignettes and

23 without crowding. If more than 1 principal display panel is on a

24 package, each principal display panel shall provide all of the

25 information required under this section.

1 (7) A water dispensing machine shall be clearly and

2 conspicuously labeled with the declaration of identity of the

3 product dispensed.
