A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4587 AS INTRODUCED 4-17-01
Under the State Employees' Retirement Act, a person receiving a duty disability pension who is also working and earning income may be subject to having his or her pension reduced. The pension is reduced if the amount of the person's earnings, added to the pension, exceed the person's final (state employment) compensation. House Bill 4587 would amend this provision to specify that that the earnings limitation would not apply to a duty disability retirant whose combined earnings and pension were equal to or less than 150 percent of the federal poverty income standards, as determined by the federal Office of Management and Budget
