A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4665 AS INTRODUCED 4-24-01

House Bill 4665 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to establish a new vehicle offense, and set penalties for its violation. Specifically, a person would be prohibited from driving a vehicle on or across a highway that was flooded due to the overflow of a river or stream, unless the driver was able to see the roadbed and the shoulder on one side of the highway. Further, a person would be prohibited from driving across a bridge that was flooded due to the overflow of a river or stream. The bill specifies that a driver who violated this section would be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or a fine of not more than $100, or both.
