A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5796 AS INTRODUCED 3-13-02

House Bill 5796 would amend the Michigan Employment Security Act to increase an individual's maximum weekly unemployment compensation benefit to $400. The bill also specifies that an individual's weekly benefit rate would be 4.3 percent of the wages paid in the calendar quarter of the base period that paid the highest total wages, plus $6 for each dependent (up to five dependents).

Currently under the law, an individual's maximum benefit rate is $300, and the law specifies that the weekly benefit rate be 4.1 percent of the individuals' wages paid in the calendar quarter of the base wage period that paid the highest total wages, plus $6 for each dependent (up to five dependents).
