A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6426 AS INTRODUCED 9-25-02
House Bill 6426 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require that a driver signal before changing traffic lanes.
Currently under the law, the driver of a vehicle or bicycle upon a highway must see that a turn can be made safely and then give a signal, before stopping or turning from a direct line. The bill would retain this provision and in addition specify that as used in this section, "turning from a direct line" would include changing lanes on a multiple lane roadway.
