        A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled

   "The code of criminal procedure,"

   by amending section 24 of chapter VII (MCL 767.24), as amended by

   1987 PA 255.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

                                 CHAPTER VII

 2
           Sec. 24.  (1) An indictment for  the crime of  murder may be

 3
      found AND FILED at any  period  TIME after the death of the

 4
      person alleged to have been murdered.   Indictments  AN INDICT-

 5
      MENT FOR CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER MAY BE FOUND AND FILED AT

 6
      ANY TIME AFTER THE OFFENSE IS COMMITTED.  AN INDICTMENT for  the

 7
      crimes of  kidnapping, extortion, AND assault with intent to

 8
      commit murder  , and conspiracy to commit murder  shall be found

 9
      and filed within 10 years after  the commission of  the offense

      IS COMMITTED.  Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2),

       all  ANY other  indictments  INDICTMENT shall be found and
   filed

 2
      within 6 years after  the commission of  the offense IS

 3
      COMMITTED.  However, any period during which the party charged

 4
      did not usually and publicly reside within this state shall not

 5
      be considered  part of  IN CALCULATING the time within which  the

 6
      respective indictments  AN INDICTMENT shall be found and filed.

           (2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), if an alleged victim was

 8
       under  LESS THAN 18 years of age at the time  of the commission

 9
      of  the offense WAS COMMITTED, an indictment for  an offense

10
      under  A VIOLATION OF section 145c,  or  520b,  to
    520C, 520D,

11
      520E, OR 520g of the Michigan penal code,  Act No. 328 of the

12
      Public Acts of 1931, being sections 750.145c and 750.520b to

13
      750.520g of the Michigan Compiled Laws  1931 PA 328, MCL

14
      750.145C, 750.520B, 750.520C, 750.520D, 750.520E, AND 750.520G,

      may be found and filed within 6 years after  the commission of

16
      the offense WAS COMMITTED or by the alleged victim's twenty-first

17
      birthday, whichever is later.

           Enacting section 1.  The extension of the limitations period

19
      provided in this amendatory act applies to violations for which

20
      the limitations period has not expired at the time this amenda-

21
      tory act takes effect.
