A bill to establish May 1 as freedom day. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. The legislature recognizes the twentieth century to 2 have been a period in which communist nations and their allies 3 advanced their ideology on 5 continents by way of subjugating 4 innocent billions and murdering tens of millions. The legisla- 5 ture further recognizes that these totalitarian regimes have tra- 6 ditionally designated May day as a holiday that celebrates their 7 ideology and crimes against human liberty. It is the desire of 8 the legislature to establish a day to commemorate the triumph of 9 individual liberty over tyranny, to memorialize the victims of 10 collectivist tyranny, and to celebrate the heroes who sacrificed 11 of themselves in this noble struggle. To this end, the 12 legislature reclaims and establishes May 1 as freedom day. 04295'01 KDD 2 1 Sec. 2.
