HOUSE BILL No. 5976 April 30, 2002, Introduced by Reps. Lemmons, Bradstreet, Adamini, Middaugh, Hale and Lipsey and referred to the Committee on Commerce. A bill to prohibit the sale of cellular telephones and pagers to certain minors without written parental consent; and to prescribe civil sanctions. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. A person shall not sell a cellular telephone or 2 pager to an individual under 18 years of age without the written 3 consent of a parent or guardian of that individual. The written 4 consent shall be signed by the parent or legal guardian, and if 5 the written consent is not signed in the presence of the seller, 6 the signature shall be notarized. 7 Sec. 2. This act does not apply to an individual under 18 8 years of age who is an emancipated minor under section 4 of 1968 9 PA 293, MCL 722.4. 07141'02 * DAM 2 1 Sec. 3.
