A bill to amend 1998 PA 58, entitled "Michigan liquor control code of 1998," by amending section 513 (MCL 436.1513), as amended by 2000 PA 344. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 513. (1) The commission may issue to the governing 2 board of a college or university, without regard to the quota 3 provisions of section 531, a license to sell alcoholic liquor for 4 consumption on the premises of a conference center operated by 5 the governing board. Licenses granted under this subsection may 6 be used only for the sale of alcoholic liquor at regularly sched- 7 uled conference center activities. The sale of alcoholic liquor 8 to unscheduled patrons or at unscheduled events is prohibited 9 under this subsection. 08057'02 LBO 2 1 (2) Subject to the provisions of section 531, the commission 2 may issue a license to a private entity for the sale of alcoholic 3 liquor for consumption on the premises of a hotel located on land 4 owned by central Michigan university if both of the following 5 circumstances exist: 6 (a) The land is leased or subleased at fair market value to 7 a private entity that owns, leases, or subleases the hotel build- 8 ing and its fixtures. 9 (b) The hotel and land are located within an industrial, 10 research, or commercial development park established by the gov- 11 erning board of central Michigan university. 12 (3) Licenses issued pursuant to this section are nontrans- 13 ferable, and the licensee shall pay the fee required under sec- 14 tion 525. 15 (4) As used in this section: 16 (a) "College" or "university" means a 2-year or 4-year state 17 supported institution of higher education. 18 (b) "Conference center" means a building or portion of a 19 building, other than a student residence hall or student center, 20 which has meeting rooms, banquet areas, social halls, overnight 21 accommodations, and related facilities for special activities 22 scheduled by the college or university, which in the judgment of 23 the commission, has been regularly used for conferences and lodg- 24 ing of guests. TheHoyt conferenceCONVOCATION center and the 25 corporate education center at eastern Michigan university, the 26 Kirkhof and Eberhard centers at Grand Valley state university, 27 the Bernhard center at western Michigan university, the Wadsworth 08057'02 3 1 center at Michigan technological university, the West complex at 2 Saginaw Valley state university, the conference center at Big 3 Rapids, the applied technology center at Grand Rapids and the 4 FSU-GR conference center of Ferris state university, Grand Rapids 5 junior college, the Waterman campus center at Schoolcraft col- 6 lege, the Mendel center at Lake Michigan community college, the 7 McGregor memorial conference center at Wayne state university, 8 the Michigan state university management educational center, the 9 Superior dome at northern Michigan university, Walker Cisler 10 center at Lake Superior state university, the Marie Prahl college 11 center at Mott community college, and the farmhouse at Delta col- 12 lege are considered conference centers for the purposes of this 13 act. 08057'02 Final page.
