A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4433 AS INTRODUCED 3-20-03
House Bill 4433 would amend the Revised School Code to require school districts to provide kindergarten, and to specify that a child who resided in the school district would be entitled to enroll in the kindergarten if the youngster was at least five years old on December 1 of the school year of enrollment.
Currently under the law, if a school district does not maintain a kindergarten, a student who is at least five years old on the first day of the school year has a right to attend school in the district. If a school district does maintain a kindergarten, then a student who is a resident of the district is entitled to attend kindergarten if the student is at least five years old on December 1 of the enrollment year.
