A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5007 AS INTRODUCED 7-17-03

House Bill 5007 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to exempt certain postal service vehicle drivers or passengers from having to wear a seat belt.  Currently under the law, the seat belt requirement does not apply to a driver or passenger of a commercial or United States postal service vehicle that makes frequent stops for the purpose of pickup or delivery of goods or services.  House Bill 5007 would retain this provision, but revise it to specify that “frequent stops” would mean a series of stops with at least one stop in the series for every mile of travel.
