A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5446 AS INTRODUCED 2-3-04

House Bill 5446 would amend Public Act 282 of 1945, which allows for the creation of county planning commissions, to require that one member of the commission be from a public school board that is located—in whole or in part—within the county’s boundaries.  The bill also would increase the minimum and maximum number of people who can serve on the county planning commission by one member, the minimum being six and the maximum twelve.

Currently under the law, the number of county commissioners serving on the planning commission is limited; however, the number of county commissioners who may serve increases with the size of the commission. The bill would retain the limits on county commissioners serving, as follows:  where the commission consisted of six members, one could be a county commissioner; where the commission consisted of seven to nine members, two could be county commissioners; and where the planning commission consisted of 10 to 12 members, three members could be county commissioners.
