A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILLS 6012-6016 AS INTRODUCED 6-9-04
The bills are part of a package to amend various acts to revise terms relating to child custody. In general, the bills would replace references to the Child Custody Act with Child Parenting Time Act, keep some uses of the term “custody” but change others to “parenting time”, delete references to physical custody, replace “noncustodial” with “other parent”, refer to a “parent with whom the minor child or children reside” instead of “custodial parent”, and use the term “sole parenting time” to refer to a parent who had sole custody of a child.
The bills would take effect January 1, 2005 and all are tie-barred to House Bill 5949, which would rename the Child Custody Act as the Child Parenting Act and make similar changes.
House Bill 6012 would amend the Revised Judicature Act (MCL 600.705 et al.). House Bill 6013 would amend the Paternity Act (MCL 722.714a et al.). House Bill 6014 would amend the Estates and Protected Individuals Code (MCL 700.5204 et al.). House Bill 6015 would amend the Age of Majority Act (MCL 722.52). House Bill 6016 would amend the Family Support Act (MCL 552.451).
FISCAL IMPACT:
The bills would have no direct fiscal impact on state or local units of government.
