PRESCRIPTION DRUG COST ON RECEIPT - S.B. 6: COMMITTEE SUMMARY

Senate Bill 6 (as introduced 1-8-03)

Sponsor: Senator Bev Hammerstrom

Committee: Health Policy

Date Completed: 2-26-03

CONTENT

The bill would amend the Public Health Code by requiring pharmacists to include on a receipt for a prescription drug both the retail price and the co-pay paid by the purchaser.

Currently, the Code requires a pharmacist to include certain information on a receipt for a prescription drug, including the brand name of the drug, the strength and quantity of the drug, the date the prescription was dispensed, the name of the prescriber, and the price for which the drug was sold to the purchaser. The bill specifies that the price on the receipt would have to include both the retail price and the co-pay, if any, paid by the purchaser.
