A bill to amend 1980 PA 299, entitled
"Occupational code,"
by amending section 804 (MCL 339.804), as amended by 1995 PA 217;
and to repeal acts and parts of acts.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 804. (1) A boxing match or exhibition for prizes or
2 purses, or for which an admission fee is charged or received, may
3 be held within the state, subject to the direction, management,
4 and control of the department.
5 (2) This article does not allow the conduct of a tough man
6 contest. As used in this subsection:
7 (a) "Tough man contest" means an unarmed combat elimination
8 contest between any 2 or more individuals.
9 (b) "Unarmed combat" means any form of competition in which a
10 blow is usually struck that may reasonably be expected to inflict
1 injury.
2 (3) (2) This
article does not apply to boxing matches or
3 exhibitions conducted by or participated in exclusively by a
4 department or agency of the United States government or by a
5 school, college, or university or by an association or
6 organization composed exclusively of these schools, colleges, or
7 universities if each contestant in the match or exhibition is an
8 amateur.
9 Enacting section 1. Section 805a of the occupational code,
10 1980 PA 299, MCL 339.805a, is repealed.
11 Enacting section 2. This amendatory act does not take
12 effect unless Senate Bill No. _______ or House Bill No. 4955
13 (request no. 04273'03 a) of the 92nd Legislature is enacted into
14 law.
