A bill to amend 1966 PA 313, entitled
"An act to award tuition grants to resident students enrolled in
independent nonprofit institutions of higher learning; and to
make an appropriation therefor,"
by amending section 4 (MCL 390.994), as amended by 1980 PA 503.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 4. (1) The Michigan higher education assistance
2 authority shall determine the amount of the grant to be paid for
3 each semester or
trimester shall be determined by the Michigan
4 higher education
assistance authority based upon an
evaluation
5 of the family's financial resources. In determining financial
6 resources, the authority shall use the same criteria as used in
7 Act No. 208 of the
Public Acts of 1964, as amended, being
8 sections 390.971 to
390.981 of the Michigan Compiled Laws 1964
9 PA 208, MCL 390.971 to 390.981. The evaluation shall make
10 allowance for other members of the applicant's family enrolled in
1 an approved institution of higher education.
2 (2) A grant shall
not be made under this act to a student
3 who is enrolled in a
program of study leading to a degree in
4 theology, divinity, or
religious education.

Prorated The Michigan higher education assistance
6 authority shall make prorated payments shall be made at the
7 beginning of each semester or term to the student or to the
8 college or university for credit to the student's account.
