A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 307b.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 307b. (1) If a male individual 16 years of age or
2 older but less than 26 years of age who is a citizen of the
3 United States or an immigrant to the United States applies for a
4 temporary instruction permit, operator's license, chauffeur's
5 license, state personal identification card, or a renewal
6 operator's license, renewal chauffeur's license, or renewal state
7 personal identification card, the secretary of state shall obtain
8 the information from that individual that is necessary to
9 register the individual with the federal selective service
10 system. The secretary of state shall inform the individual that
11 the information will be provided to the federal selective service
1 system for registration purposes.
2 (2) By submitting an application described in subsection (1),
3 a person gives his or her consent for the secretary of state to
4 provide information obtained under subsection (1) to the federal
5 selective service system. Each form used for an application
6 described in subsection (1) shall include a statement that the
7 submission of the application serves as the applicant's consent
8 to provide that information to the federal selective service
9 system.
10 (3) The secretary of state shall provide the information
11 obtained under subsection (1) to the federal selective service
12 system in the manner required by the federal selective service
13 system.
14 Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect
15 June 1, 2004.
