A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled
"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"
by amending section 11514 (MCL 324.11514).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 11514. (1) A person shall not knowingly dispose of,
2 and an owner or operator of a landfill shall not knowingly permit
3 the disposal of, medical
waste either of the following in a
4 landfill:
5 (a) Medical waste, unless that medical waste has been
6 decontaminated or is not required to be decontaminated but is
7 packaged in the manner required under part 138 of the public
8 health code, Act No.
368 of the Public Acts of 1978, being
9 sections 333.13801 to
333.13831 of the Michigan Compiled Laws
10 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.13801 to 333.13831.
11 (b) Consumer electronics.
1 (2) The department shall assure that all state owned
2 consumer electronics are recycled in accordance with state
3 recycling procedures as determined by the department.
4 (3) The department shall conduct a study into the potential
5 for establishing a statewide recycling program for consumer
6 electronics. This report shall be submitted to the legislature
7 not later than 1 year after the effective date of the amendatory
8 act that added this subsection.
9 (4) As used in this section, "consumer electronics" means
10 all of the following:
11 (a) Televisions and monitors.
12 (b) Computers.
13 (c) Computer peripherals.
14 (d) Audio/stereo equipment.
15 (e) Videocassette recorders.
16 (f) Digital video disc players.
17 (g) Video cameras.
18 (h) Telephones.
19 (i) Fax and copying machines.
20 (j) Cellular phones.
21 (k) Wireless devices.
22 (l) Video game consoles.
