A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4718 AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE 8-31-05

The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act (Public Act 142 of 2001) by adding a new section (Section 78) to:

1) name Highway M-54 in Genesee County from its intersection with I-75 north to its intersection with I-69 as the "UAW Sitdown Strike Memorial Highway;" and

2) name Highway M-54 in Genesee County from its intersection with I-69 north to its intersection with M-57 the "Marine Corps League Memorial Highway."

FISCAL IMPACT:

Section 2 of Public Act 142 indicates that the state transportation department shall only provide for the erection of suitable markers indicating the name of the highway "when sufficient private contributions are received to completely cover the cost of erecting and maintaining those markers."  As a result, the bill has no state or local fiscal impact.
