A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5239 AS INTRODUCED 9-28-05
Under provisions of the Michigan Employment Act, an unemployed worker who has a benefit year in effect and who has not exhausted his or her benefit entitlement can preserve the unused credit weeks during a period of continuous involuntary disability if a written statement from the worker's physician is submitted attesting to the worker's injury and, based upon a physical examination, inability to work full time.
House Bill 5239 would amend the act to allow the physical examination and written statement to be performed by either a physician or a certified nurse practitioner.
