HOUSE BILL No. 4722

     A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled

 

"Public health code,"

 

by amending section 6510 (MCL 333.6510) and by adding section

 

20174.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 6510. (1) An individual taken, or seeking voluntary

 

admission under section 6506, to emergency medical service ,  or

 

transfer facility shall have his or her possessions inventoried and

 

held in a secure place. The individual shall sign the inventory

 

record and the facility shall maintain the original and provide the

 

individual with a copy.

 

     (2) These possessions shall be returned to the individual when

 

the individual is released. These possessions may be released to

 

another individual if specifically requested by the individual.


 

Contraband discovered in the inventory shall not be returned to the

 

individual.

 

     Sec. 20174.  (1)  A health facility or agency that provides

 

inpatient services to patients and is licensed under this article

 

shall create a written inventory for each patient's personal

 

possessions that remain within that health facility or agency while

 

the services are being provided.  A copy of the inventory shall be

 

signed by the patient or his or her authorized representative.  The

 

health facility or agency shall maintain the original signed copy

 

and provide the patient or his or her authorized representative

 

with a copy.

 

     (2)  The health facility or agency shall maintain the

 

patient's personal belongings within a secure place.  The patient's

 

possessions shall be returned to the patient when the patient is

 

discharged.  These possessions may be released to the patient's

 

authorized representative upon request.
