A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled
"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"
(MCL 324.101 to 324.90106) by adding part 173.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
PART 173 DRUG DISPOSAL
Sec. 17301. As used in this part:
(a) "Department" means the department of environmental
quality.
(b) "Prescription drug" means that term as defined in section
17708 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.17708.
Sec. 17303. By January 1, 2007, the department and the
department of community health shall jointly develop and implement
a program for the safe disposal of prescription drugs, including,
but not limited to, the recycling of prescription drugs if such
recycling is feasible. In developing the program, the department
and the department of community health shall consult with
pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, physicians, consumers, and
other interested parties. The program shall include consumer
education and demonstration projects for sites for consumers to
dispose of prescription drugs.
Sec. 17305. The department and the department of community
health may jointly or separately promulgate rules necessary for the
implementation of this part.
