A bill to amend 1976 PA 388, entitled
"Michigan campaign finance act,"
(MCL 169.201 to 169.282) by adding section 15a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 15a. (1) The secretary of state may audit a committee
under either of the following circumstances:
(a) The secretary of state determines that there is good cause
to audit the committee because of a contemplated or initiated
investigation, hearing, or enforcement action under this act.
(b) The committee is randomly selected by the secretary of
state for an audit. The secretary of state shall not conduct more
than 9 audits annually under this subdivision.
(2) A committee that receives a notice that it is being
audited under this section shall provide to the secretary of state
all of the following:
(a) All statements or reports filed or prepared for filing
under this act.
(b) All documents and things required to be kept under section
22.
(c) All documents and things related to contributions,
expenditures, and other information required to be reported by the
committee under this act.
(d) Any other documents or things requested by the secretary
of state.
