House Bill 4973

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4973 AS INTRODUCED 6-21-07

With some exceptions, the Open Meetings Act requires all meetings of a public body to be open to the public.  One such exception is when certain public bodies meet solely to deliberate the merits of a case.

House Bill 4973 would amend the act to include the Employment Relations Commission created under Public Act 176 of 1939 in the list of public bodies that can meet privately when deliberating the merits of a case.

The bill would also delete an obsolete provision which refers to a section of the Revised Judicature Act that was repealed by Public Act 78 of 1993.

MCL 15.263

FISCAL IMPACT:

The bill would have no fiscal impact on the state.
