House Bill 4924 (as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Tim Melton
House Committee: Education
Senate Committee: Education
Date Completed: 2-6-08
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Revised School Code to prohibit the board of a school district from operating a school or any other educational program outside the boundaries of that district without the written permission of the board of the school district in which the school or program was located.
The bill would not apply to a school or educational program that was in operation as of July 1, 2007, as determined by the Department of Education.
Proposed MCL 380.1259 Legislative Analyst: Curtis Walker
FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have no fiscal impact on the State.
Without this legislation, it is possible that resident districts could lose pupils (and therefore funding) to other districts that operate a school within the resident districts' boundaries. Therefore, this bill would prevent this fiscal impact unless the school boards of the resident districts agreed to have an outside district operate within their boundaries.
