Overview

The Department of State Police provides a wide range of law enforcement services—including highway patrol, criminal investigations, forensic sciences, motor carrier enforcement, emergency management, highway safety planning, fire investigation, criminal justice data processing, and various specialized law enforcement services. The Department’s responsibilities also include oversight of law enforcement standards in the state through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and administration of several law enforcement-related grant programs.

1.     Traffic Citation Assessment Fund

House Subcommittee creates a new fund based on the Secondary Road Patrol and Training Fund, which is funded by a $10 assessment on traffic violations.  The Traffic Citation Assessment Fund would be funded in a similar manner with a $5 assessment on traffic violations. An estimated $6.0 million would be generated by this assessment and the funding would go to the following lines: $2.2 million to At-Post Troopers (House Subcommittee does not concur with Exec. 2.  Tobacco Tax Enforcement Team

3.  Trooper Road Patrol Reassignment
