A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
(MCL 168.1 to 168.992) by adding section 521a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 521a. (1) If a person or group is not complying with the
voter registration provisions of this act, the attorney general or
any person may commence a civil action for injunctive relief to
compel compliance or to enjoin further noncompliance with the voter
registration provisions of this act.
(2) An action for injunctive relief under this section may be
brought in the circuit court for the county in which the defendant
is located, resides, or is doing business. The court has
jurisdiction to enjoin noncompliance and to require compliance with
the voter registration provisions of this act.
(3) If a person commences a civil action for injunctive relief
to compel compliance or to enjoin further noncompliance with the
voter registration provisions of this act and succeeds in obtaining
relief in the action, the person shall recover court costs and
actual attorney fees for the action.
