A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4752 AS INTRODUCED 5-21-13
The bill would amend the Boiler Act of 1965 to allow for the use of training and experience in the US armed forces in the registration of boiler operators and stationary engineers.
Currently, the act requires a certain amount of training and various levels of experience for the different kinds of registration available under the act. The bill would do the following:
**Amend the definition of "qualified training program" so that it would also apply to a training program offered to active duty boiler operators and stationary engineers by a branch of the armed forces.
**Specify that the term "experience" would include experience acquired, while serving as an active duty member of the armed forces, by a veteran who was not dishonorably discharged from military service. Such an individual would have to submit with an application for registration an affidavit or letter signed by a commanding officer, supervisor, or military superior with knowledge of the applicant's service that described the applicant's experience as a boiler operator or stationary engineer in one or more of the classifications contained in the act.
Under the Boiler Act, an individual or business entity is prohibited from using the following terms unless the individual has been issued a registration under the act: "registered boiler operator," "certified boiler operator," "registered stationary engineer," "certified stationary engineer," "low pressure registered boiler operator," "low pressure certified boiler operator," "high pressure registered boiler operator," "high pressure certified boiler operator," "third-class registered stationary engineer," "third-class certified stationary engineer," "second-class registered stationary engineer," "second-class certified stationary engineer," "first-class registered stationary engineer," and "first-class certified stationary engineer."
