A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5822 AS INTRODUCED 9-17-14

House Bill 5822 would amend Public Act 161 of 1895, a law that requires county treasurers to furnish transcripts and abstracts of records, to clarify the fees that treasurers can charge for electronic records.

The bill specifies that the maximum charge for an electronic copy of a transcript or record would be 10 cents per record, not to exceed $500 for each request, if the electronic copy was maintained on file in an electronic format.

Further, the bill requires that a response to a request for an electronic transcript or record be transmitted electronically, using a format that is documented by an open standards organization and that has defined and delimited fields, such as extensible markup language (XML), comma separated values (CVS), or javascript object notation (JSON).
