Speaker Chatfield offered the following resolution:

A resolution to create the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates.

Whereas, Michigan residents pay the highest car insurance rates in the country; and

Whereas, Michigan’s highest-in-the-nation car insurance rates harm our state’s workers and families and restrict growth and prosperity; and

Whereas, Michigan residents demand a comprehensive, lasting solution to reduce car insurance rates; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates is created. The select committee shall consist of nine members appointed by the Speaker of the House, five members from the House Republican Caucus and four members from the House Democratic Caucus. The Speaker of the House shall designate the chairperson and vice chairperson of the select committee; and be it further

Resolved, That the select committee shall consider legislation to reform our car insurance system and reduce rates for Michigan residents. The select committee may favorably report any bill back to the House.
