Senator Theis’
statement is as follows:
I rise to
speak in support of Senate Resolution No. 34, which recognizes April 29, 2025,
as End Jew-Hatred Day in the state of Michigan. For millennia, the Jewish
people have maintained their religious, cultural, and ethnic identity, despite
facing enslavement, persecution, genocide, segregation, and discrimination. Yet
antisemitism persists. In recent years, hate crimes directed against the Jewish
community have surged, manifesting in workplaces, on school campuses, and in
public spaces.
This
resolution is not merely symbolic, it is a declaration that we as
representatives of the people of Michigan unequivocally condemn Jew-hatred in
all its forms. By recognizing End Jew-Hatred Day, we affirm our commitment to
combatting antisemitism and ensuring that the intergenerational trauma
experienced by the Jewish community is neither forgotten nor repeated. Let us
unite, setting aside political differences, to stand resolute against
discrimination and persecution. I urge you all to support this resolution and
join me in honoring today, April 29, as End Jew-Hatred Day.
